In June, the services sector recorded a decline, with production within the eurozone shrinking by 0.3 percent and by 0.2 percent for the entire European Union on a monthly basis, according to the latest data from the statistical office Eurostat. This marks a reversal in the trend compared to May 2026, when statistics registered growth of 0.7 percent in both the eurozone and the EU, according to Eurostat’s first estimate for this key economic sector.

Looking at the performance of individual member states, significant differences in results can be observed. The most notable monthly declines in services production were registered in the following countries:

  • Latvia: -3.7 percent
  • Germany: -2.1 percent
  • Bulgaria: -1.1 percent

At the same time, against the backdrop of the general trend, a number of countries managed to achieve significant monthly growth in the sector, with Luxembourg leading with an increase of 7.8 percent, followed by Portugal with 3.1 percent and Lithuania with 2.6 percent.

In the long term—on an annual basis (June 2026 compared to June 2025)—services production still shows a positive trend, with an increase of 1.5 percent in both the eurozone and the EU. In Bulgaria, the sector also maintains stability with annual growth of 5.9 percent. Among the other member states, the ranking of the largest annual increases looks as follows:

  • Greece: +9.3 percent
  • Slovenia: +8.5 percent
  • Estonia: +7.1 percent
  • Lithuania: +7.1 percent

At the same time, negative results were also reported on an annual basis, with declines recorded in Denmark (-6.5 percent), Germany (-0.6 percent), Italy (-0.5 percent), and Austria (-0.1 percent).
