October 23, 1996: 7 degrees in the morning and a light drizzle
Thirty years ago on this date, Burgas was cold for October. In the morning the thermometers showed 7 degrees, in the afternoon they did not go above 13, and there was light rain. Last year the same day was almost summer-like, with 23 degrees and not a drop of rain.
Today's Friday falls somewhere between the two. Temperatures are between 12 and 17 degrees, with brief showers and up to about 1.5 mm of rain for the whole day. The chance of rain is just under half, 48 percent. Yesterday also had light showers.
95 percent humidity at 8 a.m.
The sun rises at 07:32 behind the clouds. At 8 a.m. it is 14 degrees and humidity reaches 95 percent, so the air is damp and heavy, and car windows fog up. The chance of rain in the morning is 40 percent.
By 2 p.m. it reaches 15 degrees and it may drizzle, although the chance drops to 35 percent and humidity to 85. There will be about two of the eleven daylight hours of sunshine. The UV index is 1, so you don't need sunscreen. When the sun breaks through, it will feel like up to 19 degrees.
In the evening the sky clears. At 8 p.m. it is 15 degrees, mostly clear and without rain, and sunset is at 18:16. The air in the city is clean, the air quality index is 18, which is an excellent rating.
West wind with gusts up to 23 km/h and waves up to 20 centimeters
The wind blows from the west, at about 12 km/h. The west wind in Burgas comes from the land and the lakes and pushes the waves out to sea, so near the shore the water is almost smooth. On the Bridge and along the pier in the Sea Garden the wind feels stronger than between the apartment blocks.
The sea is about 18 degrees. It is already cool for swimming, especially under clouds and rain, but a walk on the sand works once the drizzle stops.
Jellyfish withdraw, boats go out for horse mackerel and bluefish
Jellyfish gather in warm, calm water during the summer. Now, with a cool sea and cloudy sky, they are seen more and more rarely on the beaches in Sarafovo and Kraimorie.
For fishermen, autumn is the season of horse mackerel and bluefish. The calm sea with small waves lets boats from Kraimorie and Pomorie go out comfortably. The mussels on the rocks and in the farms in the bay tolerate the colder water well. Cormorants and gulls gather along the breakwaters and fishing piers, following the boats and the fish close to the shore.
The usual for the date is 19 degrees
Today is about two degrees cooler than normal for October 23. The closest to today is 2016, when it was cool, with 16 degrees and light rain. In 2006 it reached 21 degrees. Five dates in the archive are not enough to say where the weather is heading, because the difference between the warmest and the coldest day is over 9 degrees.
A hooded jacket and an umbrella until the afternoon
In the morning and at midday you need a light hooded jacket or a windbreaker, and an umbrella in your bag won't be superfluous. In the evening it is pleasant for a walk along the seaside promenade. After sunset the dampness is noticeable, so an extra sweater doesn't hurt.
It is better to leave running in the Sea Garden or by Vaya Lake for the late afternoon, when the rain stops. Drivers should be careful on the wet asphalt and the fallen leaves on the boulevards, especially in the Friday traffic leaving the city. Whoever heads to Sozopol or Pomorie for the weekend will drive on a dry road in the evening.
Saturday with fog and 9 degrees in the morning
Tomorrow morning there will be fog, temperatures will be between 9 and 17 degrees without rain, and the wind will turn to the east with gusts up to 26 km/h.
