Kardzhali mayor Erol Myumyun, deputy leader of the DPS party, was driven to a police station in a patrol car yesterday and released in the early afternoon. He called it political repression.

It is the second time in five months that police have taken Myumyun in. Two other DPS mayors, in Belitsa and Sungurlare, have also been arrested.

After his release, Myumyun told a briefing at the town hall how events unfolded. He linked his case to the arrests in Belitsa and Sungurlare.

Many DPS supporters gathered outside the town hall. They said the police action was political pressure and repression. Tension among party members at the scene grew.
