Earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 hit Sliven and Yambol

More than ten thousand people living in the Sliven and Yambol regions were awakened tonight by a strong tremor that shook the eastern part of the country. The magnitude of the earthquake was 3.2 on the Richter scale, according to the National Seismological Center at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS).

The tremor was registered at exactly 02:48 am, with its epicenter located in the territory of Sliven. According to seismologists, the depth of the focus was 12 kilometers below the earth's surface. Despite its relatively low magnitude, the earthquake caused alarm among the local population, who clearly felt the buildings swaying. Many people shared on social media that they were alarmed and went outside to make sure there was no danger.

Currently, there is no officially confirmed data on material damage. However, residents of the affected areas report falling objects and minor cracks in older buildings, but this information has not yet been confirmed by the authorities. Due to the heavy rainfall in recent days and the floods they caused in various regions of the country, there is a risk of landslides being activated in the Sliven and Yambol regions as well.

The earthquake was also felt weakly in the territory of Yambol, which alarmed the population in the neighboring city. Experts remind us that Bulgaria is located in an active seismic zone, which makes earthquakes a frequent occurrence. However, they urge people not to panic and to follow the instructions of the authorities in the event of stronger tremors.
