Police in Burgas detained a 46-year-old local man on Wednesday, 14 October, after he was caught driving a delivery van with 1.44 promille of alcohol in his blood, the regional police directorate (ODMVR) in Burgas said.
Officers from the Second District Police Department stopped a Renault Master with Sofia plates for a check at about 12:40 pm in front of block 68 in the Slaveykov neighbourhood.
Driving with more than 1.2 promille of alcohol is a crime under the Criminal Code, not just a traffic offence.
Police opened fast-track proceedings against the driver, who is in custody for up to 24 hours.
Police did not say whether the man gave a blood sample for chemical analysis or whether the van was seized. There is no report of a crash during the check.
