Introduction of the Euro: Information Meeting in Tsarevo

Representatives of the Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) and the National Revenue Agency (NRA) held an information meeting in Tsarevo, part of the national campaign to inform citizens and businesses about the introduction of the euro. The event, which took place in the hall of the "Georgi Kondolov – 1914" Community Center, attracted the attention of citizens, representatives of the municipal administration, and businesses. Obviously, the issue of the upcoming change in the national currency concerns the residents of the city.

Danaila Kostova, chief inspector at the CPC, presented the main stages of the introduction of the euro. She emphasized that the aim of the campaign is to provide citizens with clear, accurate, and reliable information regarding this key moment. Emphasis was placed on the rules for the dual display of prices in leva and euros, which, according to her, is an obligation of all traders in accordance with the Law on the Introduction of the Euro in the Republic of Bulgaria (ZVERB). Inspector Kostova urged consumers to be vigilant and to monitor the correct display of prices, encouraging them to report any discrepancies.

Kostova also explained to those present how they can report violations to the institution and what their rights are in case of incorrectly displayed prices or incorrect practices by traders. She emphasized the importance of trusting only official sources of information regarding the process of introducing the euro, in order to avoid misunderstandings and disinformation.

During the meeting, those present asked questions related to the practical application of the rules for the dual display of prices and the operation of cash registers after the transition to the euro. The atmosphere in the hall was active, testifying to interest in the details of the upcoming change. The representatives of the institutions answered the questions asked and encouraged citizens to follow the current information published on the official websites of the CPC and the NRA.

Hristo Uzunov, chief expert in the "Communications" Directorate of the NRA, presented the position of the revenue administration. He assured those present that the agency's systems are fully prepared to work with the euro and that all information arrays have been adapted for the automatic conversion of amounts from January 1. "All payments to the NRA will be automatically converted from January 1 and will be in euros," said Uzunov, reminding that the agency does not perform cash operations, but works entirely in a cashless manner.

He emphasized that the NRA offers nearly 200 electronic services and urged citizens and businesses to continue to use them actively, as this is a quick and efficient way of service. Uzunov added that when submitting the annual tax returns after the introduction of the euro, the declared income will be indicated in leva, but the payments will be made in euros.

At the end of the meeting, residents of Tsarevo asked questions related to the number of coins that traders can accept. The CPC clarified that traders will not be obliged to accept more than 50 coins per payment.
