An information meeting for relatives of people with dementia and Alzheimer's disease will take place in Pomorie on 22 October at 3pm, the municipality said. The team of the Home Social Patronage service in Burgas will present the "Purple Bracelet with a QR Code".
The meeting will be held at the Dechko Stoev City Art Gallery, 15 P.K. Yavorov Street. The municipality has invited local residents.
The Patronage service created the "Purple Bracelet for People with Dementia" initiative. It is meant for older people with dementia, Alzheimer's disease or other cognitive disorders, and for their families.
The bracelet carries a QR code. When someone scans it with a mobile phone, the screen shows the person's name and age, and the phone number of a relative or guardian. Members of the public, police officers, medical teams and staff of other institutions can read the code.
This way a lost or confused person can be identified quickly, and the family can find out in time and bring them home.
The organisers say the idea came from a rising number of cases in which confused older people get lost and cannot get home on their own or say who they are. They see the initiative as a step towards a safer environment for people with dementia and their families.
The colour purple and the forget-me-not stand for compassion and support for people with dementia.
The municipality ties the initiative to its policy of bringing in new social and health services for older people and their families. At the meeting, the team will explain what the bracelet is for, how it is used and how to get one.
