Young Man Survives Flood in Elenite, Undergoes Three Operations

An eighteen-year-old young man was rescued after dramatic events that unfolded during a disaster. The press center of the University Multi-profile Hospital for Active Treatment (UMBAL) in Burgas announced the rescue of the young man, who underwent three complex surgeries after a serious injury during a flood in Elenite.

The young man, whose identity remains a mystery, was admitted to the hospital in a dire state. Without documents, only wearing a t-shirt and shorts, he arrived at the medical facility after an ordeal that lasted for hours. Evacuated from a flooded building in Elenite, the victim fought for his life. His left leg was seriously injured by hard objects and glass, which turned the flooded environment into a deadly trap. An infection, resulting from contact with contaminated water, was also added to the injuries.

In the hospital setting, under the care of medical specialists, Artyom recounts the terrifying moments he went through. "I woke up from the water that was pouring through the windows. I tried to escape, but the water was so strong that it glued me to the wall. I started to get an electric shock, as the water had entered the electrical outlets," he shares with the doctors.

After realizing the impending danger, the young man managed to evacuate to a higher floor, where he waited to be rescued along with other people. Later, he was transported by ambulance to Burgas, where the fight for his life began.

Artyom's condition necessitated immediate surgical intervention in the Clinic of Orthopedics and Traumatology. After the first operation, two more followed, undertaken to control the infection. The doctors, working tirelessly, managed to save the young man's limb, who was undergoing a great ordeal.

After successful treatment, Artyom has already been discharged from the hospital. His family expresses their gratitude to the team of UMBAL-Burgas for the timely assistance, professionalism and humane treatment, the medical facility reports.
