A massive, record-breaking police operation conducted by the General Directorate of Border Police has led to the seizure of a large quantity of narcotics in the Burgas area. During the operation, nearly 110 kilograms of a powdery substance that tested positive for cocaine, as well as approximately 230 kilograms of herbal material that tested positive for marijuana, were confiscated. According to preliminary estimates, the total value of the seized substances could exceed 15 million euros.

Details surrounding the discovery were announced during a joint briefing by the Prosecutor's Office and the Border Police. Law enforcement officers stopped a truck with Sofia registration for inspection on Friday at approximately 1:00 PM as it was entering the city of Burgas from the direction of Sofia. A subsequent thorough search of the cargo area revealed pallets stacked with duffel bags. Inside, a total of 340 packages of narcotics were distributed, with each package weighing approximately one kilogram.

The truck driver was immediately detained, and the vehicle and drugs were seized as evidence. By Saturday, the driver had already been officially charged with possession of narcotics with intent to distribute, informed Svetoslav Marinchev, Deputy District Prosecutor of Burgas and the prosecutor overseeing the case. He added that due to the volume of the shipment, expert analysis will take time to confirm the contents of each package, and once the examinations are finalized, the final financial valuation of the seized quantities can be determined.

Marinchev clarified that the estimated value of 15 million euros is based on prices used by the judicial system, which are often lower than the actual street market value. As the investigation progresses, it will be determined whether other individuals will be held accountable. Chief Commissioner Anton Zlatanov, head of the General Directorate of Border Police, emphasized the unprecedented nature of the case: "This is truly a record amount seized in a single operation outside of a port or border crossing point." Zlatanov highlighted that the government has focused on combating drug trafficking and that the country is successfully countering the attempts of criminal networks to use our geographical location for smuggling routes.

Burgas District Prosecutor Georgi Chinev pointed out that this is another significant strike within a short period. According to him, in just three pre-trial proceedings overseen by the District Prosecutor's Office, over half a ton of drugs has been seized in less than two months. Chinev described this trend as "disturbing statistics." The investigation is actively continuing.
