Burgas: Training Center for Architects and Architectural Competition

The national professional organizations of architects in Bulgaria - CAB and SAB have chosen Burgas for the creation of their training center for qualification and retraining. The decision was announced after a meeting between the mayor of Burgas, Dimitar Nikolov, and the chief architect Tihomir Raychev, with the management of the Chamber of Architects in Bulgaria and the Union of Architects in Bulgaria at the national and regional level.

Leading figures from the architectural community attended the event, including arch. Borislav Vladimirov – chairman of CAB, arch. Petar Dikov – chairman of SAB, arch. Miroslav Boychev – deputy chairman of the MB of CAB, arch. Sabin Popov – chairman of the regional college of CAB in Burgas, and arch. Emil Burulyanov – chairman of the regional college of SAB in Burgas.

The two organizations expressed full support for the international architectural competition announced by Burgas Municipality for the so-called "Hole" on "Troykata" square. They emphasized their satisfaction with the approach of taking the opinion of the citizens when preparing the assignment for the competition.

The gathered experts emphasized that this type of international and open competition, which offers a large prize fund, is unique in Bulgaria. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm for this rare occasion.

The chairmen of the two leading professional architectural organizations expressed their willingness to assist in the formation of the jury, by offering an architect of world level, and in the evaluation of the submitted projects. This underlines the commitment of the professionals to the future development of the city.

At the meeting, the long legal battle that Burgas Municipality is waging to return a larger part of the territory of the "Hole" to the city was recalled, with the aim of building a public zone instead of a shopping center. The organizations of architects stated: "Your competition will be a step towards establishing the competition principle for landmark places in Bulgaria".

Burgas Municipality was given as an example for the use of BIM software for three years now. This technology provides full transparency and control over the construction of public buildings. The idea is for more and more state and municipal structures to use BIM, as this leads to significant savings in the implementation of the projects and detailed control over the construction process.

CAB Burgas has an ambitious plan to organize an Architectural Festival in 2027, in support of Burgas's candidacy for European Capital of Culture. The mood was optimistic, with a clearly expressed hope for the successful realization of this initiative.
